Some of us have started to realize that player positioning can affect the balance of the game. I'm proposing a set of guidelines for competitive play around player positioning. Tournament organizers are welcome to adopt these or create their own rules. Player positioning is negligible for the majority of players, but some competitive players do care, so it's worth having rules in place.
    • If there is no seeding, use a random number generator to determine the higher seed.
    • It's up to the higher seed to indicate if they care about player positioning before the game starts.
    • If the match has multiple games (e.g. Bo3), swap the higher and lower seed each game.
    1v1 Games
    1. Higher seed picks side (side has no effect on balance, but some players may prefer to play on one side for comfort)
    2v2 Games
    1. Higher seed picks side
    2. Lower seed picks the positioning of players 1 and 2
    3. Higher seed picks the positioning of players 1 and 2
    3v3 Games
    1. Higher seed picks side
    2. Lower seed picks the positioning of player 1
    3. Higher seed picks the positioning of player 1
    4. Lower seed picks the positioning of players 2 and 3
    5. Higher seed picks the positioning of players 2 and 3
    4v4 Games
    1. Higher seed picks side
    2. Lower seed picks the positioning of player 1
    3. Higher seed picks the positioning of player 1
    4. Lower seed picks the positioning of player 2
    5. Higher seed picks the positioning of player 2
    6. Lower seed picks the positioning of players 3 and 4
    7. Higher seed picks the positioning of players 3 and 4
